Job openings increased 21,000 today to 3.5 million. Hires increased 146,000 to 4.4 million while separations increased 75,000 to 4.1 million. Most industries saw fewer openings, but a few were up: Federal, State and Local government were up modestly along with education / health services (up 24,000), retail trade (up 62,000), and accommodation/food services (up 5,000). Jobs in finance fell 67,000 while all other shrinking sectors lost less than 10,000 each.
